Getting Out There

This morning, I woke up to three facts:

  1. I had already applied for all the interesting (read: administrative) jobs in the area.
  2. The Significant Other needed me out of the way for a few hours to concentrate on work.
  3. The sun was shining brightly.

The logical conclusion was that, if I don't want to spend all day sitting in front of my computer watching DVDs and playing games and generally doing nothing useful (and there's nothing that I hate more than wasting a day for nothing), I will go out and do something.

Preferably something productive.

Ideally something creative.

So, the decision was quickly made: I hadn't been out to take any photos for the purpose of them being artistically valuable (rather than depicting my friends hugging or other documentations of my social life) for quite a while. I blame the weather.
Either way, sometime last year I was walking to a friend's house and had to cross this pedestrian bridge when I noticed that the constructors had tried to put some creative thought into its design. Since it was cold and raining and I was already late (for me that means I would arrive at the appointed time rather than 15 minutes early) I resolved to take pictures of it at some other point. Life intervened, as usual.

So, today I went to that bridge to hopefully get some worthwhile pictures.
Total photos taken: 49
Decided not to delete: 7
Deemed good enough to share with the world: 2
That's a conversion rate (can you tell I work in retail? Can you?) of 4%. Significant Other tells me one should aim for 10%. Well... can I count the ones I didn't delete? Then I've got 14%...

And now, without much further ado:

I just loved the idea of putting at least something artistic interesting on the lamp posts. This way, they look like something belonging to a Tesla invention...

If I wasn't scared of thunderstorms I'd love to get a picture from this exact angle with some lightnings in the background.

Sadly, due to the position of the sun, I couldn't follow my original idea and take a picture of the lamps directly in front of the sun - but then again it was blinding me enough when I took this shot.

I am quite happy to have captured that vapour trail just in the centre, however!

There was something about this lamp post (I just thought when writing it "Lamp post again? I must have a fixation on those today...") that made it seem quite unwavering, reaching into the sky like that.
Plus, I really liked the cloud formation.

Any constructive criticism is very welcome!

Did I do anything else today? Oh yes, I decided to start a blog, with the aim in mind to spend all days that are otherwise spent doing useless things with doing interesting things or thinking about interesting things to share here.

This is post one.

I hope you stay with me!
